» Hi, I was at the North Texas Teen Book Festival and I got Nemesis. First of all thank you for spending time with me and signing my book. I read Nemesis in a day, and I really liked it. I’m looking forward to the next one. Thank you again.
asked by Camryn from Texas
My response:
Thanks so much! That means a lot to me. If you’re inclined, spread the word on goodreads! And I’ll finish editing book 2….

» Hi. You probably get asked this question a lot, but are you planning to add on to the Virals series? I just finished Trace Evidence, and it was really good, but sometimes, books are written so well that even if the ending isn’t a cliffhanger, you still want more. I can’t wait to read Nemesis. It sounds really good. I love your work. I was also wondering if you were planning to make a sequel to Nemesis?
asked by Kate from Roseville, CA
My response:
No new Virals books are planned at present, but the future of the series is pretty much tied up in how well #Nemesis does, so please support it! I think Tory fans are going to LOVE Min. Nemesis is the first book of a duology, so there IS a sequel. AND I’M WRITING IT RIGHT NOW.

» Hi Brendan. Thanks for answering my last questions! I thought I would let you know one of my goals (because resolutions are bogus) is to write a book! I’ve liked writing since I was a little kid but only recently decided to write my own. I was wondering if you have any advice? I’d really appreciate it! Also, what/ where is a good place to check my work? I don’t know where a good place is to have my work thoughtful checked. Thanks so much! Ps- LOVED Nemesis! Going to preorder!!
asked by Kaytlyn Miller from West Virginia
My response:
My advice is write all the time. Get used to the process. Your third book will be better than your first, so get going, and start the learning process. And don’t worry about having all the answers before you start! No one does. Those usually come to you as you write. I would also suggest that you read widely, too, and think about what you like and don’t like in each book. It’s a great way to learn.
THANKS FOR PRE-ORDERING #NEMESIS! Pre-orders really help an author get momentum for a book project.

» Okay, SO…I am extremely, tremendously, decidedly excited for Nemesis. Honestly, Brendan, you and Rick Riordan make me hope that there is more to this world than what we see with our eyes. You take the impossible and make it something to look forward to rather than fear. And I know I’m jumping the gun since the book isn’t even out, BUT!!! I need to know this: Is Nemesis going to have a sequel? I don’t want to anticipate a second only to get the book and find out it won’t happen. So is this a one-shot? Or will there be more?
asked by Amanda Judd from Warren, OH
My response:
Thanks so much Amanda! There WILL be a second book, and I’m editing it RIGHT. NOW. #Nemesis

» Okay, so a lot of people start off by saying that they’re a huge fan of the Virals series, and I certainly am too, but I want to come up with a better word for it. Elephantine. Yeah, that’ll work okay. Anyways, the question I wanted to ask you was this: If you could go back and change on thing in the Virals series, what would it be? It could be something big, like maybe have Tory fall in love with Hi instead (which would be interesting by the way), or be something as little as making Chance’s hair red instead. I’m simply curious about what an author would say about that. I hope I get a response, but this could just give you something to think about too. Thanks for writing the Virals series. It truly is a work of imagination, and most definitely one of my favorites (I did read the whole thing more than once in, five days, I think).
asked by from
My response:
Hmmmmmm. I think, if I could change one thing, I would have brought back the Gamemaster for another go. I’ve always thought there was more that could be done with that character, but I really liked how Code came out and was too scared to ruin it by adding more. Good question!

» Hello, first off, and I know that you hear this a lot, but the Virals series is my new FAVORITE SERIES EVER!!!! I got hooked after my friend from school suggested the series to me because she knows that I like the series BONES. Well, since then I have absolutely ADORED your books and just finished Trace Evidence an hour or so ago. I know that you said, in answer to earlier questions, that if your fans made Nemesis a hit, that you would write one more Virals book. Knowing that you get this request all the time, I am here to re-iterate; Is there ANY way AT ALL that you would please write more than one more Virals book? ANY WAY at all? I am looking forward to Nemesis but nothing can take the place of the Virals. One of the reasons that I love the books so much is that they are so realistic and keep you hooked around every turn- you can always expect Tory to do the unexpected and dangerous. Fantastic characters all of them. I will reccomend these books to all my friends and will most likely re-read them over and over and over again. Thank you so much for writing a series that is so fantastic and excellent that I cant stop reading it aloud to anyone who will listen. It has been a while since I have found a series like this!!!!!! Thank you sooooo much!
asked by Rachel from Wisconsin
My response:
Thank you so much Rachel! It’s emails like this that keep me going as a writer. My offer stands, but we’ve got NEMESIS ahead and I think you guys are REALLY going to like it. Details soon!

» Hi Brendan. After moving to Hanahan and reading the series, I have spent some quality time on Google to see if you based the Clayborne Manor on a real house. I have checked it out on the Virals website, and I have not seen one like it on S. Battery. Can you please shed some light on this? I love historic downtown Charleston, but I am not knowledgeable about the buildings. Thanks!
asked by Lindsy Brunhouse from Hanahan, SC
My response:
Hey Lindsy! I love detective work. Claybourne Manor is based on the real Calhoun Mansion, as you can see if you follow the description of the house and its general location. I moved the house away from the Battery a little, but other than that it’s a pretty strong correlation. Check it out next time downtown.

» Hello! I would first like to say that i am a huge fan of the Virals series! I would read and reread your books in a heartbeat. So, my question is: Are you going to continue the viral series? I’m sure you get this question a lot, but I would really lik to know if this amazing trilogy will be continued in any way. Love your books! Keep doin’ what you love!
asked by Orion Jackson from Niceville, FL
My response:
Orion! Buddy! IT’S NOT A TRILOGY, MY MAN! THERE ARE FIVE VIRALS BOOKS. Check out my website for details, but: Virals, Seizure, Code, Exposure, and Terminal. Plus the Virals short story collection Trace Evidence. And don’t miss NEMESIS next Spring, it’s the best of them all, I think.

» I’m a HUGE fan of the Virals series, and i have 2 questions. 1st, will you be writing a new kind of epilogue book to the series? Because when you ended it with [SPOILER] that was just a total cliff hangar. And I HATE books that leave you with a huge cliff hangar, but the authors say “oh, well, you can use your own imagination.” It’s the author’s book, the author’s gonna end it! Also, I heard that a Virals movie may be coming out! If so, then I am very excited. #1 Virals and Bones fan! (I’m 13)
asked by Jesse from Buchanan, Michigan
My response:
Jesse! Have you read the Virals short story Spike? IT’S EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. It can be pruchased alone or in the short story collection TRACE EVIDENCE. As to a movie, it looks like I’ll need NEMESIS to be a hit before I get a green light for a Virals movie. Right now I don’t have a deal in place, but we are always hopeful! Thanks for reading.

» I had never really liked to read mystery books until it stumbled across Virals in a used book store. I read it in a day no joke! I literally stayed up all night and read. I’m at terminal right now and definitely plan to get the short stories! I used to be so bored cause I didn’t have a book that interested me. It has only been a month since I started reading and I will just say I will read them over and over until I die or you come out with a new installation. I hope you are well when reading this and if you don’t I hope you spend it writing another Virals novel or something just as great so I don’t have to spend the rest of the year feeling miserable while doing schoolwork PS Yes my name is Courtney and yes I am blonde but I see myself in Ella. [SPOILERS!] I love your work!!
asked by Courtney S from USA
My response:
Thanks Courtney! I’m so glad you liked Virals, and I really think you’ll love NEMESIS, especially if you’re into mysteries. It’s a HUGE one. More details will be on my website SOON!
