» Hi Brendan. After moving to Hanahan and reading the series, I have spent some quality time on Google to see if you based the Clayborne Manor on a real house. I have checked it out on the Virals website, and I have not seen one like it on S. Battery. Can you please shed some light on this? I love historic downtown Charleston, but I am not knowledgeable about the buildings. Thanks!

asked by Lindsy Brunhouse from Hanahan, SC

My response:

Hey Lindsy! I love detective work. Claybourne Manor is based on the real Calhoun Mansion, as you can see if you follow the description of the house and its general location. I moved the house away from the Battery a little, but other than that it’s a pretty strong correlation. Check it out next time downtown.

» Hello! I would first like to say that i am a huge fan of the Virals series! I would read and reread your books in a heartbeat. So, my question is: Are you going to continue the viral series? I’m sure you get this question a lot, but I would really lik to know if this amazing trilogy will be continued in any way. Love your books! Keep doin’ what you love!

asked by Orion Jackson from Niceville, FL

My response:

Orion! Buddy! IT’S NOT A TRILOGY, MY MAN! THERE ARE FIVE VIRALS BOOKS. Check out my website for details, but: Virals, Seizure, Code, Exposure, and Terminal. Plus the Virals short story collection Trace Evidence. And don’t miss NEMESIS next Spring, it’s the best of them all, I think.

» I’m a HUGE fan of the Virals series, and i have 2 questions. 1st, will you be writing a new kind of epilogue book to the series? Because when you ended it with [SPOILER] that was just a total cliff hangar. And I HATE books that leave you with a huge cliff hangar, but the authors say “oh, well, you can use your own imagination.” It’s the author’s book, the author’s gonna end it! Also, I heard that a Virals movie may be coming out! If so, then I am very excited. #1 Virals and Bones fan! (I’m 13)

asked by Jesse from Buchanan, Michigan

My response:

Jesse! Have you read the Virals short story Spike? IT’S EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. It can be pruchased alone or in the short story collection TRACE EVIDENCE. As to a movie, it looks like I’ll need NEMESIS to be a hit before I get a green light for a Virals movie. Right now I don’t have a deal in place, but we are always hopeful! Thanks for reading.

» I had never really liked to read mystery books until it stumbled across Virals in a used book store. I read it in a day no joke! I literally stayed up all night and read. I’m at terminal right now and definitely plan to get the short stories! I used to be so bored cause I didn’t have a book that interested me. It has only been a month since I started reading and I will just say I will read them over and over until I die or you come out with a new installation. I hope you are well when reading this and if you don’t I hope you spend it writing another Virals novel or something just as great so I don’t have to spend the rest of the year feeling miserable while doing schoolwork PS Yes my name is Courtney and yes I am blonde but I see myself in Ella. [SPOILERS!] I love your work!!

asked by Courtney S from USA

My response:

Thanks Courtney! I’m so glad you liked Virals, and I really think you’ll love NEMESIS, especially if you’re into mysteries. It’s a HUGE one. More details will be on my website SOON!

» Ok so I am 14 and looking for a book to read so I didn’t have to do extra work over the summer. The librarian and I were talking for about an hour on books that I like and she recommended me the Virals books. They are so good and I heard about your new book that you are writing, so my question is what will Nemesis be about?

asked by Sara C from Carbondale, K

My response:

Nemesis is about a girl named Min Wilder who just turned 16. Every two years, on her birthday, she is murdered by the same man in black suit. Except she always wakes up a few hours later, unharmed, in a field about a mile away from home. Without scratch on her.

Sound interesting? Details to follow on my site!

» Hi! I’m a huge fan of the books (I’ve read them like five times each) and it’s been a while since I heard anything about y’all trying to get a movie deal. Are you still working on that idea?

asked by Tori B. from KY

My response:

Still working on it, but nothing new yet. But I’ve gotten some good buzz on a possible movie for Nemesis, which I think you’ll like too. Fingers crossed for both!

» So, can Virals have kids? Most hybrids are sterile/infertile. Can they have kids with normal humans, or can they only have kids with other Virals (Hi and Shelton would be sad if that was case). Also, are the children of Virals also Virals? And, finally, my last question: After the mysterious sixth book is released, would you be free to read fan fiction?

asked by Kari from Bedias, TX

My response:

Interesting questions, Kari! I have no awareness of anything about being Viral that would prevent a person from having kids, but as to what those kids would be like …. ? I’m focused on Nemesis first, but make that book sing and we’ll talk about the next step for the Virals. I don’t read fan fiction — authors really aren’t supposed to, for legal reasons — but I highly encourage readers to write it! Go nuts!

» Okay, firstly, let me just say thank you thank you thank you for writing this series. I love it so much, it’s honestly my favorite series ever and I love these characters beyond words. Onto my actual question. We hear about Colleen ever so often in the books and I’m intrigued about her as a character because I mean she raised Tory and her death had such an impact on her so I was just wondering if there was anything you could tell us about Colleen? Also I swear I didn’t even plan to send this question on Mother’s Day but it seems fitting. Thank you and I hope you have a lovely day with your mom :)

asked by Cerimar Olivares from Bronx, New York

My response:

And I’m sorry it took me so long to get to your question. SHAME. Colleen is intentionally vague in the series because I wanted to focus on Kit, but the clues are there. She was a warm, caring mother, but maybe not the most equipped. They never had much, but she always made Tory feel safe. And that’s why losing her was such a blow. She thought that her mother was all she had, until she met Kit.

» Hi! I’ve been doing some fan art of the Virals series, and I really want to draw the town houses on Morris Island, and I was just wondering if you could maybe give us a little more details on the house? I love the series so much, and I want to do it the justice it deserves. Thanks!

asked by Ella from Australia

My response:

I’d love to see it! A cool representation of the townhouses, and lots of other neat Virals stuff, can be found on the Virals series website. Click on the interactive map! (www.viralstheseries.com)

» Hi there! I follow you on Twitter and saw that you had made a deal to make another Virals book, following Spike, if your audience could make nemesis just as widely known and attentive. And this had me thinking: in your spare time, do you ever think about what’s next for your characters? Do you still get ideas for these characters even after the series has seemingly ended? Thank you so much! Sending love from Arizona!

asked by Bria Gastelum from Arizona

My response:

I think about what the Virals would do next a lot. If another book happens, I imagine it would be a bit forward into the future, perhaps even outside of high school. But we’re a long way from planning that book yet! I’m 100% focused on Nemesis and I think you guys are really going to like it. Min is like Tory, but with a mean streak.
